Poor Plum Trees.

My two year old pot grown plum trees have been flowering for nearly two weeks and are starting to put on some leaf.  But I finally got sick of looking at their leggy state last weekend, poor things.  In my opinion they would be wasting time and energy if I let them continue as they were, they would only have added to already spindly growth, eventually producing weak trees that would have broken branches when the started to crop fully.
The first three pictures below are the trees after my savage pruning.  I hope I have got this correct, if not I have just set my fruit growing back by a year of more.  Only time will tell and there is no way possible to undo what I have done lets hope.

The final picture is of my year old maiden meddler.  I have only shortened this tree slightly from what it was when I planted it as it was too tall.  The little beast is going berserk and sprouting branches all over.  I have nipped off the lower buds below the height of the rabbit guard.  I suspect that I will have to prune it further this autumn.  It really is a fantastic little tree I hope it continues as it has started.

The apple trees which received similar treatment to what the plums have just received are all now responding and are budding well.  The Discovery has been the slowest to respond but it is finally showing small new buds, thank goodness I was getting worried.  I will add some pictures of the apple trees in the next week or so to show how they are responding.
