Home grown apples for the first time. The first picture if of Duchess of Oldenberg. I picked them slightly early but as the tree is still small I thought it had carried the weight long enough. The apples were under ripe but the taste was good enough and as they are a dual purpose apple they went into a pie mix.
The three apples below are from the eldest of my three James Grieve trees. Again they were slightly under ripe but again they are dual purpose apples and all added to the pie mix.
The result. Two apple pies, I was sparing with the sugar and for my taste I should have either waited for the apples to ripen further or added more sugar, but it's all a learning curve and with a little more sugar sprinkled on top the pie was great.
