A view of the orchard as it looks today, taken from one of our bedroom windows.  The trees in the central three rows are ten meters apart at the moment, I will be filling in all but the central row so that the spacing will end up at five metres between the trees planted in rows which are five and a half metres apart.  From my reading this seems to be the correct spacing for the rootstock I am using, MM106 for the apples and St Julien A for the plums.  I didn't go for the extreme dwarfing root stock as I am keen to achieve a pleasing visual effect as well as a productive orchard.
