My Duchess of Oldenberg is in its second year and seems to find the idea of producing flowers in every possible space is a great idea. I won't let it carry many fruit, if any set, but I may leave one or two. The pictures show them as a particularly beautiful apple. What a beautiful little tree.
The Discovery was a two year old pot grown when I planted it so it is now in it's third year. Though it suffered rabbit damage last year it has a strong hold and I will let it carry fruit if it wishes to. But it is a nice little tree and has the potential of a great branch structure.
Perhaps, as my wife and children think, I'm a sad old git taking such pleasure in my trees but do I care? No, I don't give a damn, I'm enjoying myself caring for my trees.
