April 2015

Fully planted and everything seems to be well at the moment.  I have just cut the grass for the second time this year, carefully avoiding the daffodils.  All seventy two trees are coming into leaf, even the one year old maidens that I planted during the last winter seem to be waking up

I have just planted twenty little hazel trees along the side of the ditch.  I know I won't get any nuts but I enjoy watching the squirrels.  I will cut down the rest of the old hedge next winter and complete the replanting before next spring.  I am going to plant the new hedge a little further from the edge of the ditch to make the hedge cutting easier.  I will probably plant most of the remaining area with hawthorn.  I would like to plant yew, but the little trees are expensive though they don't need rabbit protection.  Speaking of rabbits I am still at war with the local rabbit population, I'm not winning but neither are the rabbits.  As the little trees start to grow this year I will start to write a little more detail.
